What is Fynbos?

Fynbos refers to a unique type of vegetation found only in the Cape Floristic Region, Southern Coastal South Africa, a region recognized as one of the world’s six floral kingdoms. It consists of thousands of plant species—many of which are found nowhere else on Earth. This extraordinary biodiversity thrives in the Mediterranean-like climate of the Cape, defined by cool, wet winters and hot, dry summers.

The term "fynbos" comes from the Dutch words for "fine bush," referring to the fine, needle-like leaves of many of the plants. Fynbos isn’t just beautiful—it’s an essential part of the ecosystem and has been used for centuries in local cuisine, medicine, and more recently, in distillation.
